Monday, November 3, 2008One Penultimate Hurrah!Maybe two actually. Last weekend I went to NC for the last USA Cycling Endurance Calendar Event outside of Charlotte. The October Challenge 8hr race was on the agenda, and I was excited because there were going to be some big names there I read about but never get a chance to race. Nat Ross, Tinker Juarez, Jeremiah Bishop and Ernesto Marenchin. Another strong man named Diego was showing, so I was real excited about the possibilities. Also Since it was a USA Cycling Calendar event there was going to be some good coverage. If you want to read the full story you can go to my blog at www.boxedbee.blogspot.com. The short of it was after watching Nat Ross lead through the first lap, I went to the front and got into the trail first on the second lap with Jeremiah on my tail. We did a bit of pace setting, letting the rear ends flail around, and at the end of the first lap we had a 40 sec gap on everyone else. We just kept setting that pace and in the end it came down to Jeremiah and I sprinting each other for the win. Well, he actually went early, and caused us to go out on another lap so he had a 12 sec gap on the last lap and over the finish line. Either way, it was a great race, and one of the first times I had a pit crew, which was an awesome experience. Velonews Article Cyclingnews Article One other event which was off the radar but fun was the 2nd annual Philadelphia Dirty Dozen hill climb race. It was a 42 mile ride with 13 of the burliest steepest climbs in the area. In the end I took the win amongst a crowd that started at 80 strong and dwindled to 30. None of the climbs were more than 4 minutes but they were all headwalls of note. You got to love local unofficial events like that. And I won a mason jar of homemade chili! Subscribe to Posts [Atom] |
