Michaux Maximus, the 20th year

What a fun day! Saturday the boy and I delivered the shirts to the venue and hung out with the trail marking crews. Holly picked up the boy and dropped off the dog, who spent the night in the lot with me. Good times throwing sticks and drinking a few carb loading beers. Sunday came and we got suited up for a 40 mile loop through my hometown woods. Myself and the other racers that is, not the dog. She got to walk and spectate with a friend's girlfriend. The weather was great, unlike what the forecast had predicted. It was a wee bit overcast with some heat early and then some cooler light rain.

I used my old faithful start, a slow one. I think I was near the end of my group. After a few miles I found fellow local chic racer Cheryl Sornson of Team CF. She asked me to look at her broken spoke. So we had a quick look and got back on it. I was enjoying a steady pace that didn't feel fevered but still allowed me to reel in riders from all classes, looking for one speeders all the way. I rode without incident all day and got word that I was 4th place SS somewhere past the 2/3 point of the race. Thanks Drew, I always enjoy an update. I was content with 4th and continued to go steady fast to the finish. Upon entering the finish tent I'm told by "Drunk Finish Chute Guy" that I'm 2nd SS. I can certainly live with that. It turns out that two wicked fast riders were off the front and got off course by a good bit. So I got a buy to the second step of the boxes. Which serves as a good reminder to all of us out there on the course. It doesn't matter how fast you are going, if you're going the wrong direction.
